My first time snowboarding for the 2021/22 season and wow, was it a good one. I was visiting some friends at the University of New Hampshire and was supposed to go snowboarding with one of my ski buddies to Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH. Unfortunately, he got sick and wasn’t able to make it, so I went up by myself but going alone isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I really enjoy meeting people that come from different backgrounds and have different stories. Most of the people I have met while snowboarding are very friendly and that is where I met a bunch of my friends.
I had only been to Loon Mountain a handful of times before, so I am relatively unfamiliar with the layout of the mountain. There are maps everywhere that make it very easy to find your way around. The folks at Loon are also very helpful in directing you with any questions you may have.
When I arrived, it started snowing and was amazing skiing conditions, especially for being pretty early into the ski season. I was surprised by how empty it was. I was able to get back to the ski lifts with relatively short waits (it also doesn’t hurt that I was going into the single rider line). Going down the steeper trails, the wind was whipping, and it got pretty chilly. I felt like Pickachu when I got to the bottom because of how red my cheeks were.
Overall, a great day for snowboarding. I forgot how much your legs hurt after the first time out for the season. Looks like I don’t need to do leg day this week!
